7 Prayers Through the Bible

Leon and I were chatting on Monday about some misgivings we shared about the Prayer of Jabez and how it had led both of us to seek out some other Biblical prayers. Here is a one-week compilation I made. I'll also post 7 Prayers of Paul that I did separately.

Monday

Jacob’s Prayer

Genesis 32:24-28
24So Jacob was left alone, and a man wrestled with him till daybreak. 25When the man saw that he could not overpower him, he touched the socket of Jacob’s hip so that his hip was wrenched as he wrestled with the man. 26Then the man said, “Let me go, for it is daybreak.”
But Jacob replied, “I will not let you go unless you bless me.”
27The man asked him, “What is your name?”
“Jacob,” he answered.
28Then the man said, “Your name will no longer be Jacob, but Israel, because you have struggled with God and with men and have overcome.”

l What one area in particular do you long for God’s blessing in?
l Persevere and struggle to see God’s answer.
Tuesday

Moses’ Prayer

Exodus 33:13-14, 18-19
13If you are pleased with me, teach me your ways so I may know you and continue to find favor with you. Remember that this nation is your people.”
14The LORD replied, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.”
18Then Moses said, “Now show me your glory.”
19And the LORD said, “I will cause all my goodness to pass in front of you, and I will proclaim my name, the LORD, in your presence.

l “teach me your ways”
l “so I may know you”
l “to find favor with you”
l “show me your glory”

Jabez’s Prayer

1 Chronicles 4:9-10
4:9 Jabez was more honorable than his brothers. His mother had named him Jabez, saying, "I gave birth to him in pain."
4:10 Jabez cried out to the God of Israel, "Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain." And God granted his request.

Thursday

Solomon’s Prayer

1 Kings 3:9-13
9So give your servant a discerning heart to govern your people and to distinguish between right and wrong…10The Lord was pleased that Solomon had asked for this. 11So God said to him, “Since you have asked for this and not for long life or wealth for yourself, nor have asked for the death of your enemies but for discernment in administering justice, 12I will do what you have asked. I will give you a wise and discerning heart, so that there will never have been anyone like you, nor will there ever be. 13Moreover, I will give you what you have not asked for—both riches and honor—so that in your lifetime you will have no equal among kings.
l “give your servant a discerning heart to govern your people and to distinguish between right and wrong”
Friday

Asa’s Prayer

2 Chronicles 14:11
11Then Asa called to the LORD his God and said, “LORD, there is no one like you to help the powerless against the mighty. Help us, O LORD our God, for we rely on you, and in your name we have come against this vast army. O LORD, you are our God; do not let man prevail against you.”

l “help us”
Ø Help me where I feel weakest today.
